No Baby Died At Crèche Of Bombed UN House

The UN on Sunday said no baby died in the crèche of its building which was bombed on Friday in Abuja.

Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Abuja, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro said that no baby was in the crèche at the time of the incident.

Migiro said that 23 persons were so far known to have died in the blast, including Nigerians, Ivorians and a Kenyan, while out of the 73 who were injured, 26 of them were receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the National Hospital in Abuja.

According to her, four of the injured members of staff of the UN had been flown to Johannesburg for further treatment.

She said investigation was underway.

She condemned the attack, but stated that in spite of that, the UN would not be deterred in its mission in Nigeria and around the world.

“Maternal health and children’s health will continue to be of great concern to us, we will continue to work in Nigeria , the government has offered us a temporary facility to continue our work.”

“We have a business continuity-plan and we will continue to work here,” she said.
