Thirty streets have confirmed their readiness to take part in this year’s Yakub Abiodun Balogun Soccer Championship slated for 30 September at the Campos Square Sports Centre, Lagos Island.
The Chairman Organising Committee, Afolabi Onanaike, told P.M.Sports that only streets that fall under Lagos Island Constituency II are eligible to take part in the one month -competition.
Hon.Yakub Abiodun Balogun,who is representing Lagos Island Constituency II in the Federal House of Representatives, is sponsoring the tournament.
Onanaike said at least 30 streets have submitted their registration forms and they are still expecting more streets under Lagos Island Constituency II to come for their registration forms.
“I am impressed that a lot of streets have shown interest to take part in our competition. This shows that youths are ready to showcase their God-given talents through the round leather game,†he said.
Some of the streets that have submitted their registration forms are Freeman, Patty,Tokunbo, Epetedo, Lafiaji, Campos,Tinubu,Odunfa,Okepopo,Campbell,Igbosere and Joseph Street.
The cup donor, Balogun, who was the former Lagos Head of Service, told the organisers that the tourney is sponsored to keep youths busy and to maintain peace on Lagos Island.
