A 21-year old man, Damilola Adewumi has been charged to Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for allegedly attempting to kill his step-mother, Alhaja Onaopemipo Adewunmi for marrying his dad.
P.M. NEWS gathered that Damilola had warned Alhaja to leave their dad so that the dad will take proper care of his family. But instead of the two lovers going their separate ways, they decided to consummate their relationship with marriage.
Damilola was alleged to have got a machete and attempted to kill Alhaja for ignoring his warning not to marry his father.
The incident happened attheir family house, 8, Adeshina Street Akowonjo, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, .
P.M. NEWS gathered that Damilola claimed that his father abandoned him and other siblings since he met Alhaja and that strained the relationship with their dad and his children.
Damilola blamed their predicament on Alhaja and warned her to leave their dad but she was adamant.
Infuriated by his dad’s decision, Damilola allegedly used a cutlass to pursue Alhaja to kill her before their neigbours prevented him.
He allededly went back to the house and destroyed the woman’s property. His action has landed him in Kirikiri, Apapa because he was arrested and charged to court for attempted murder and malicious damage under sections 451 and 86 of the criminal code cap 17 vol 2 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
He pleaded not guilty. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter has been adjourned till 14 September 2011.
He was remanded in prison.
