Nigerian In ABU's Committee

One of the officials of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, NBB of C, Lateef Muiss, has been elected into the Ring Officials Committee of the African Boxing Union, ABU. The NBB of C official was among the three Nigerian ring officials that attended a two-day seminar at the recently concluded Biennial African Boxing Convention in Lusaka, Zambia.

The ring officials at the convention included the referees, judges, ring doctors, gloves masters and time keepers.

NBB of C president, Godwin Kanu, on his arrival from Zambia told Boxing In Focus that the ring officials are very essential to the success of professional boxing tournaments.

“I am delighted that a ring official from the board has been elected into the Ring Official Committee of the African Boxing Union, ABU. This is a good development for professional boxing in Nigeria. The ring officials are vital for the success of professional boxing. I am happy that one of them have been elected into the highest committee for the ring officials in Africa,” said Kanu.

Speaking on the importance of the seminar to the officials, the NBB of C topshot said that their participation in the seminar gave them the opportunity to improve their knowledge of judging and officiating in professional boxing tournaments.

“They were tutored at the workshop on how to comport themselves during professional boxing bouts. It takes efficient officials to handle situations effectively during boxing tournaments. They attended the seminar in order to improve their management skills as regards professional boxing tournaments,” said the NBB of C president.

The NBB of C topshot said the ring officials at the two-day seminar, tutored by the World Boxing Council, WBC, accredited referee, Bruce Donald Mc Tavish from New Zealand, were updated with the most recent information about boxing

“They had the privilege to be updated with current trends in professional boxing tournaments. They were handled by a WBC accredited referee who taught them the new rules and regulations of international boxing tournaments,” said Kanu.
