Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko at the weekend reiterated his determination to continue to ensure that the provision of amenities that would transform the state into an investors’ destination would continue to be the focal point of his administration.

 

Specifically, Mimiko also assured that his administration in putting in place good governance would ensure that the people are happier and comfortable noted that the spate of developmental projects being put in place across the State were meant to make Ondo State a modern one.

 

The Governor spoke during a solidarity rally by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leaders for the Labour Party, held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure, the state capital.

 

Over 2,000 members of the union led by three of its prominent members Messrs Ariyo Adetula, Makinde Kayode and Oye Akinboboye joined the Labour Party.

 

While affirming his administration’s preparedness to support the state branch of the NURTW through the provision of more vehicles and conducive working environment, Mimiko assured that more commuter buses would be provided for the union in addition to the 100 buses recently subsidised for them by the state government if its members keep faith with the agreement, stressing that arrangements were in the pipeline to provide taxi cabs for taxi drivers in the state.

 

The governor also disclosed that the ultra-modern motor park in Akure, which he described as the best in the country when completed would give comfort to both the commuters and the transport operators as all necessary facilities would be provided there.

He equally enjoined members of the union to work in harmony and shun any act capable of disrupting the existing peace in the state, describing the driving profession as very crucial to the socio-economic transformation of the nation.

 

He described the Labour Party as the party that has kept faith with its campaign promises with empirical evidences manifesting in every nook and cranny of the state, especially in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and agriculture among others.

 

He vowed to work for the people no matter any intimidation or rumour from any quarter.

 

“I want to assure you that your government is on course in this state. We will continue to do things that will bring joy and happiness to our people. I want to thank the leadership and members of the NURTW in this state for maintaining peace and tranquillity. You must realise that your profession is a noble one. You are very prominent and very useful to the socio-economic development of this nation. You must realise this and know that you are an agent of progress in this land,” he stated.

 

In his speech earlier, the state chairman of the NURTW, Mr. Obayoriade Oladutele, thanked the state government for aceding to the requests of the union at all times, adding that the construction of a modern motor park in Akure would add value to the union and the profession.

 

He promised his union’s support to the state government in a bid to achieve success in its programmes.
