Two men, Promise Ilo, 25, a driver and his conductor, Ambrose Nwachukwu, 27, have been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of stealing two 20-foot containers loaded with chemicals worth N14 million.
The prosecutor, ASP L.O. Mammah told the court that the chemicals were stolen on July 23 and they belonged to a businessman, Olufemi Awogbade.
“Ilo is a driver while Nwachukwu is the conductor. They were supposed to deliver the chemicals to Olufemi Awogbade but they went away with them,” the prosecutor told the court.
He also urged the court to take notice of the fact that the complainant had not been present in court since the case started, adding that the accused had been languishing in detention.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and begged the court to grant them bail on liberal terms.
The presiding magistrate, Chief Magistrate E.O. Ogunkanmi granted them bail in the sum of N2 million each and adjourned the matter.
