Assemblyman Earns Constituents’ Wrath

But for the quick intervention of the security agents at the Lagos State House of Assembly, a lawmaker representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency at the Assembly, Abdulbaq Balogun would have been malhandled by his constituents.

The constituents had marched to the House to register their anger over the alleged move to retain Kamar Baiyewu, the incumbent Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Council in the forthcoming council election in the State.

The residents who carried placards with various inscriptions and chanted anti-government songs, said throughout the tenure, he had not done anything to develop the area.

Trouble, however, started when the lawmaker allegedly came to the entrance of the Assembly where the protesters thought he would address them.

Rather than do the expected, he allegedly left them and went into the Assembly without attending to them.

He later came out to address them but the protesters who were already angry, charged at him and when they could not gain access due to protection by security officials, they warned him not visit the constituency again.

They also promised to ensure that he does not enjoy their support anymore reminding him that he would come back to seek their votes in future.

Every attempt by the lawmaker to inform them that he was actually fighting their battle inside the Assembly failed as the protesters refused to listen and instead mobilised and left the place.

The lawmaker said he had received the protest letter from one of them and had gone to deliver it to those who would handle it in the Assembly. But due to the fact that the constituents thought he abandoned them in the sun for more than one hour, they were difficult to convince.
