Churches are now adopting stricter security measures following the recent security challenges in the country, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Investigation by NAN reveals that some pentecostal churches now scrutinise the vehicles and bags of members while security guards search their clothes.

Some guards, who spoke to NAN last Sunday on condition of anonymity, said the measures were to ensure security.

At the Household of God Church, Ikeja, security guards were seen on Sunday at the entrance gate inspecting members’ bags and vehicles.

At the auditorium of the Daystar Christian Centre, Oregun, security guards were also seen searching bags placed on empty seats.

Rev. Fr. Gabriel Osu, Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, told NAN that Catholic Church members in Kano were not allowed to bring bags into church halls.

“ In Kano, people were not allowed to bring in their bags because of the insecurity in the state, but in Lagos it is not so,” he said.

Osu advised Nigerians to be security conscious as well as pray to God for divine security.
