A 45-year old security guard, Suleiman Buhari of Oloje area in Ilorin was on Tuesday remanded by a Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a five-year old girl.

The mother of the victim, Mrs. Afusat Olabanji of the same address, said that the accused raped her daughter on September 1, 2011, and she reported the incident to the police that same day.

She said that the accused used to play with her daughter and carry her into his room where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The plea of the accused was not taken by the court after the Police First Information Report (FIR) was read out.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Mojisola Olamokun, objected to the bail sought by the accused on the ground that the alleged offence was not ordinarily bailable.

He prayed the court to remand the accused pending the completion of investigation.

The magistrate, Mrs. Qudus Salahu, upheld the submission by the prosecutor and remanded the accused at the Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin.

She adjourned the case to September 29, for hearing.
