Madam Abiola, a.k.a. Iya Kunle, a landlady at 26B, Soretire Street, Off Old Ota Road, Orile Agege, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, has been arrested by policemen at Area ‘G’ Command, Ogba for allegedly beating one of her tenants, Mrs. Ifeoluwa Thomas Ilemora, over rent.

Investigations revealed that trouble started when the landlady allegedly slapped the tenant for hitting a loudspeaker belonging to her.

“My problem with her started on the day she padlocked another tenant’s room and I said it was not right. She dragged me before the customary court at Omotoye Estate, Mulero and she was told to return my two years rent.

“On 15 July, 2011 she disconnected my electricity, locked the toilet and bathroom and gave keys to all other tenants. She warned them not to give me the keys. She even went to the extent of locking the entrance gate at 9 p.m. against the 10 p.m. we agreed upon before I moved in.

“On 16 July, my husband was reversing his vehicle and unknown to him, a loud speaker belonging to the landlady was at the back. She jumped out from where she was sitting and slapped me and started beating me,” she told P.M.NEWS.

Responding to the allegations, the landlady denied beating her but told P.M.NEWS that it was true she gave her quit notice, adding that the court had instructed her to pack out of my house. “She used to come home late. I did not beat her, I only held her clothes,” she said.
