Wife Seeks N10,000 Allowance For Children's Upkeep

Petitioner in a divorce suit, Mrs. Omolola Olayinka, 39 has asked an Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court , Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, to grant her custody of the first child of the marriage and compel her husband, Rasheed Omolola, 43 to pay her N10,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep.

According to her, the monthly allowance of N10,000 will be for the upkeep of their two children; Cynthia, 15 and Garfar, 5.

She told the court that she was ready to pay the children’s school fees of N43,000, adding that her estranged husband should be made to pay the medical bill whenever the children fall sick.

Responding, Rasheed Olayinka, a mechanical engineer agreed to pay the monthly allowance for the children’s upkeep, adding that the petitioner should contact him whenever the children fall sick.

After listening to the parties, the President of the court, Mr. Emmanuel Shokunle noted that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and adjourned the suit till 14 September, 2011 for judgment.
