Fake ASP Docked

The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned 38-year-old Tunji Okanlawon for allegedly posing as an assistant superintendent of police (ASP).

The accused, Okanlawon, is standing trial before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi of the Somolu Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of impersonation and unlawful possession of the uniform of the Nigeria Police Force.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Akinlabi Adegoke, said that the accused allegedly paraded himself as an ASP at the Bariga Police Station on August 18.

He said that Okanlawon was unlawfully in possession of a police beret, a pair of policeman shoes and a Nigeria police identity card.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 108 and 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till October 5 for hearing.
