Hoodlums have burgled an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at the Badagry branch of Wema Bank Plc., reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

NAN learnt that the hoodlums overpowered and tied up the bank’s security guard before carting off an unspecified sum of money.

It was learnt that the burglars also attempted to gain access to the strongroom without success.

Mr. Afolabi Owolabi, Wema Bank Business Development Manager, told NAN the bank did not open for business on Tuesday following the burglary.

“I cannot tell you more than that for now. All I know is that we have been asked not to allow anybody into the premises until further notice,” he said.

Mr. Samuel Jinadu, spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed the incident.

“The burglars pulled down the wall of the bank, carted off some money and tried to gain entrance to the strong room without success,” he said.

Jinadu said that no arrest was made so far, adding that investigation was ongoing to unravel those behind the crime.
