Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State says his government will discourage the use of non-indigenes to represent the state in any sporting event.

The governor stated this while answering questions at an interactive forum to mark his 100 days in office at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.

He regretted that 60 percent of the athletes who represented the state at the last National Sports Festival in Rivers State were not from Ogun.

He noted that the use of mercenaries to win laurels is bad and must be stopped immediately.

The state governor disclosed that athletes who won laurels for the state at the last sports festival had been financially rewarded.

He said that the present administration would continue to accord priority to sports, assuring that all the sporting facilities in the state would be adequately maintained.
