I Only Carry Robbers For Operation, Man Confesses

A 24–year old robbery suspect has told an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos that he was not an armed robber as alleged by the police, rather he drives robbers during operations.

The accused, Tunde Talabi also known as Indomie said he has not handled arms before, but knew some robbers who he usually drive with his motorcycle whenever they are going for robbery operations within Lagos and its environs.

He confessed that the gang usually pays him certain amount of money on every operation.

Tunde was arrested at Second Avenue, Festac town, Lagos with his friend, Samuel Alfred, a.k.a. Sami when they robbed one Chimezie Nwankwo of N1.3 million at gunpoint.

Tunde accosted the victim while Samuel pointed a gun at his head and took his money. They were arrested by policemen on patrol and taken to the Festac station.

At the station, Tunde claimed that he was an Okada rider and he was released.

In the course of investigation, the police found three guns in Samuel’s house and was made to identify members of his gang. He mentioned Tunde and others who are now at large. The police rearrested Tunde and charged him to court for robbery.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to remand him in custody pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Shoubi granted the application and adjourned the matter.
