As campaigns for next month’s elections into the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, gathers momentum, various groups and associations have been endorsing their candidates for various positions.

In Ijaiye/Ojokoro in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Grassroots Widows and Orphan Improvement Initiative, a non- government organisation set up to address the plight of widows and orphans in the area, has given its nod to the re-election of the incumbent Chairman of the LCDA, Mr. Adeyemi Benjamin Labinjo and his Vice, Alhaja Fausat Hassan -Olajoku.

Mrs. Folashade Omitogun described the Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Hassan-Olajoku, who is also the president/ Founder of the NGO, as hard working, loyal and kind, adding, “She has done a lot to assist women in our LCDA. She carries us along in decision making and execution of projects affecting us. Since the creation of the council, no woman had done what she did.”

Women Leader in Ojokoro LCDA, Mrs. Balogun, popularly called Faaji, vowed to mobilise her colleagues to participate in the election, saying that they want continuity.

“Labinjo and Hassan-Olajoku represent that credible ticket to sustain the ongoing development in Ojokoro. Many women have been empowered through access to micro credit, which the council provided. Therefore, more wealth has been created for us as many of our young girls are now engaged in small-scale businesses like hairdressing, tailoring and soap making,” she said.
