Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has excoriated President Goodluck Jonathan for hastily replacing the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, while his matter was still in court.
The Senator called on Jonathan to reinstate Salami immediately.
“I am therefore calling on the president and all Nigerians of good conscience to see to it that any injury which has been caused the suspended PCA be immediately reversed,†Ojudu said in a statement yesterday.
The Senator rejected Jonathan’s excuse that a vacuum could not have been permitted in court, saying that Salami should have been given fair hearing before the post-haste move by Jonathan.
Ojudu warned that the current assault on the law may lead to anarchy, adding that “nobody craves for it especially against the backdrop that it thwarts everything in its trail.â€
The issue, the Senator said, borders on the integrity and sanctity of the judiciary regardless of the individuals involved, adding that “all men and women of good conscience and goodwill should be on the alert and condemn the unfolding drama.â€
He added: “Whenever there appears a threat to the independence of the judiciary and any form of interference, then the trust which is the bedrock of its existence will be destroyed.â€
Ojudu said he decided to speak up to lend his support for an independent and fearless judiciary.
