Fire on Sunday destroyed properties estimated at over N4 million at the Gidan Bege Orphanage at Millionaires Quarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Although there was no loss of life, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that most of the apartments of the building were razed.

Coordinator of the Orphanage, Pastor Bulus Apga-Paul described the incident as unfortunate and added that it was the third time a fire incident would be recorded in the past one week.

According to him, the first fire outbreak occurred on Sunday Sept. 4 and was reported to the Fire Service Officers who then helped in putting it out.

Consequently, the Orphanage electricity supply was disconnected to avoid a recurrence.

However another fire outbreak occurred on Friday Sept. 9 which consumed the library, the office, and all the property therein.

He stated that although the situation was brought under control by neighbours and sympathisers, the incident happened again in the early hours of Sunday.

He therefore called on the government and well meaning individuals to come to the aid of the orphans to give them a sense of belonging in the society.

He said: “I consider this unfortunate situation as a time of sorrow for the orphanage, as this kind of sad event has happened three times with in one week.., although God knows best.”

The pastor commended the fire service and all those who helped in putting out the fire while praying to God to guard them against a recurrence.
