Auchi Poly Ex-Rector Dies
It has been a week of mourning for the students of Auchi Polytechnic, following the death of a chief lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication and former Acting Rector of the institution, Sir. Louis Oritsejimi Akhagbosu.
The incident which was said to have shaken both lecturers and students of the Polytechnic happened in the early hours of Sunday.
Family sources, who spoke on the death of Akhagbosu, a knight in the Anglican Communion, said he was hail and hearty till the incident occurred.
A lecturer and close pal of the deceased, who confirmed the death of the lecturer, explained that they were together on Saturday till about 7pm.
According to him, “we were together till 7pm on Saturday and he did not show any sign of being ill.
“I was only called at 11pm later that day and told that he complained of pains and later slumped.
“He was rushed to the Otibhor Okhai Specialist Hospital where he died at the early hours of Sunday.â€
Until his death, Akhagbosu taught News Writing and Reporting, Interpretative and Investigative Journalism in the Department of Mass Communication.
He was a two-time head of the department and later became the Dean of the School of Business Studies. He was soon appointed Deputy Rector in charge of Administration in the school and became the Acting Rector of the institution.
The late Akhagbosu, who is always remembered for his statement: “journalism is not a tea party,” has been described by students and lecturers as one of the most important figures that would be missed in the institution as he was said to have touched so many lives.
Burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
