Four Remanded Over Assault

The police at Area A Headquarters, Lagos Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested and arraigned four men before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two count charge to commit felony to wit, assault, occassioning harm.

The police alleged that the accused, Ibrahim Aruna, 18, Taiwo Adeniji, 24, Akibu Afolabi, 23 and Sodiq Adigun, 21 and others still at large on 4 September 2011 at Holloway Lane, Oke Arin area of Lagos Island assaulted Ibrahim Ojora and Oluwaseun Okunubi and caused them bodily harm.

The victim reported the matter to the police and the accused were arrested.

After investigation, they were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court. The offences, according to the prosecutor Corporal Adams Collins, are punishable under Sections 516(A) and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17 Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Oshodi Makanju admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two surety in like sum.

The magistrate also directed that one of the surety must be a clergyman and thereafter adjourned the matter till 21 September, 2011 for mention.

The accused were, however, ordered remanded at Ikoyi Prison when they could not fulfil their bail conditions before the court closed for the day.
