‘Mass Failure In WAEC Is Big Challenge’

The Director, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin, Prof. N. Y. S. Ijaiya, has described the recent mass failure of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) students as a big challenge to teachers. Prof. Ijaiya made this assertion recently during the opening ceremony of the maiden orientation programme for sandwich students at the university auditorium.

Prof. Ijaiya affirmed that teachers should be at the forefront of the fight against examination malpractice because it makes nonsense of their work. She added that teachers are in a better position to educate the younger generation under their control about the dreaded HIV/AIDS and other social vices.

According to her the Institute of Education has provided in-service training for serving teachers to upgrade themselves, adding that the institute over the years, has trained thousands teachers from all the states of the federation. She said the institute also provides succour for candidates who cannot get admission to regular programmes due to the limited spaces.
