Report Suspicious Movement, Lagos Charges CDAs

Due to the growing insecurity in the country, the Lagos State government has charged Community Development Associations, CDAs, across the state to report suspicious movements in their communities to the government for prompt action.

Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, made this charge yesterday while presenting 4.5 KVA electricity generating sets to six rural communities in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, to enable them pump water from the Type ‘A’ water scheme recently handed over to them by government.

The benefitting communities are Iganke Community, Agbowa-Ikosi LCDA; Esin-Ofin Community, Ojo Local Government; Moweko Community, Badagry LG; Alake Community, Ikorodu and Isale Odo Community, Alimosho LG.

According to the commissioner, there is no longer safety anywhere, not even in Churches and Mosques as gross insecurity had crept in, adding that “we want to call on you to be security conscious”.

“If you notice any strange face in your environment, cry out to us. You can use the 767 emergency number to call us because without information like this, we cannot act.”

The commissioner also called on the CDAs to report cases of people erecting structures on drainage channels to government for prompt action, saying that CDAs should be alive to their responsibilities.

Ojelabi said the generators given out to the six communities are to enable them pump water from the boreholes as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, had failed to supply stable electricity to for people, adding that “we decided to give you generating sets to complement your efforts.”

He stated that the Rural Ministry had the mandate to provide affordable water supply to rural communities across the state and urged the communities to maintain government properties in their domain.

The commissioner said the resources allocated to the ministry were not enough to cater for the ever-growing needs of the rural dwellers, hence the community should jealously guard the projects at their disposal.

Earlier, the Director, Water/Sanitation, Ministry of Rural De elopement, Mr. Rasheed Ayeni said the six communities were selected to benefit from the gesture because they had been able to maintain government projects in their domain.
