Worker Steals Company’s N35m


A company worker, Chris Famakinwa has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for stealing the company’s N35 million.

The 34-year old Chris was alleged to have stolen the money belonging to Sara Products Company Limited, a telecommunication firm located at Industrial Estate, Kirikiri Town, Apapa, Lagos.

Chris, who is now cooling his heels in prison custody, allegedly gained access into the company’s vaults and stole the money piece meal for several months without the knowledge of the company’s management.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the alleged theft was committed between November 2010 and August 2011 before the company discovered and reported to the police.

Chris was arrested and charged to court for stealing contrary to and punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 17 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. A. O. Adefuleye granted him bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till 15 September, 2011 for hearing.

The court ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos, pending when he will meet the bail conditions.
