The Nupe community in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State has debunked allegations of nonperformance against the council chairman, Mr. Oladele Adekanye and his counterpart in Yaba Local Council Development Area, Mr. Olajide Jimoh, saying that those making the allegations are disgruntled elements within the councils and described them as enemies of progress.
Coordinator of the group, Mustapha Nasir, stated that even the blind could see the achievements of both chairmen in terms infrastructure and provision of basic social basic amenities in the councils.
According to him, out of the 25 public schools in Lagos Mainland, Adekanye was able to rehabilitate 18, rebuilt one completely and established another at Iponri for residents of Olaleye community.
In addition to this, the council boss, according to Nasir, also sank bore holes in each of the schools with power plants to pump out water.
He explained further that the council was the first to distribute free exercise books to pupils in public schools, shortly after the inauguration of Adekanye’s administration and that recently, school bags and set of Mathematical instruments were also distributed to them.
Apart from pupils in primary schools, secondary school students also benefited from the council chairman’s kind gesture through distribution of free GCE forms and coaching classes to prepare them for the examination.
In the health sector, the community leader noted that Adekanye has performed above board with the construction of new a health centre in Oto, while the existing one, Damisile, was rehabilitated and equipped with modern medical facilities.
Nasir disclosed further that six roads including Jones, Lagos and Oba Ganiyu Adesanya streets were rehabilitated in the area, adding that a new council secretariat is being built by Adekanye’s administration, among other laudable projects.
He therefore called on the leadership of Lagos Mainland Stakeholders’ Forum to stop playing politics of bitterness and mudslinging as Adekanye can be rated as one of the best council chairmen in the history of Lagos State in terms of achievements.
He also advised the forum led by a former council chairman, to be objective in their criticisms, saying the electorate cannot be deceived as they know that Adekanye is best candidate for the job.
