The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, of complacency in running the state’s affairs.

The state chairman of the party, Mr. Setonji Koshoedo, made this accusation during his 4th scholarship awards and public lecture organised by Yoke Fellows Foundation in collaboration with the state PDP.

At least 57 beneficiaries, drawn from public primary and secondary schools in Badagry received the awards while three students who scored the highest marks in the foundation’s scholarship examinations were given full scholarships for their secondary education.

Koshoedo said the zeal and vigour with which the state governor ran the affairs of the state in his first term had faded since he assumed office for the second term, adding that what the indigenes had observed were political ceremonies rather than actual work.

He said: “As for Fashola’s performance, I will say that there is element of complacency to the extent that the zeal and vigour with which he came into office in the first term has disappeared. Probably, he is becoming political more now than before.

“What we are observing now is more of political ceremonies rather than actual work. The PDP is challenging the governor that he is getting more comfortable to the detriment of bringing development to Lagosians,” he noted.

He expressed his party’s readiness to participate in the forthcoming local government elections in the state, saying that they would also contest elections in the local council development areas.

“We are doing our best to make sure that we participate well. Not just participating, we are changing our strategy. We believe we will do better this time around. We have confidence in the number of our aspirants and many people are still interested in the PDP in Lagos,” he said.

He added that initially, the party “had issues” contesting election in the LCDAs but after serious consideration, it felt it should contest since the councils had been sustained by the funds of the PDP-controlled Federal Government.

In a swift reaction, the state Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, in a statement, said Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola had remained focused and committed in discharging his functions.

“The non-existent PDP in Lagos will always have something negative to say about Fashola just to be in the news. But the truth of the matter remains that the governor has remained focused with his eyes fixed on the ball.

“The PDP in Lagos knows nothing about sound initiatives, creativity in governance, careful planning and intelligent execution of projects. They do not exist in their lexicon. In a football pitch, 22 players perform the real action and thousands of spectators do the talking and shouting. In Lagos we do the work and PDP does the talking,” he stated.
