The Seme Area Comamnd of the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC, in its ongoing war against smuggling, false declaration of goods by importers and exporters has within a week made seized sets of furniture and four sports utility vehicles, SUV, recently.

According to Seme Customs Area Command Controller, Sahabi Abubakar Sadiq, “there is no going back on the command’s zero tolerance for smugglers, untrue and false declaration of goods by importers and exporters.”

He said the furniture which falls within import prohibition with an estimated value of N50 million was seized at Gberefu village, a community between Seme and Badagry town.

Sadiq added that within the same week, the Command, also foiled an attempt by some persons to evade duty on four SUV cars brought into the country. He said investigation is still going on over the four vehicles.

“Our men are up to the task and will rise to any challenge to undermine our presence at the border. We have deployed all the logistics and our personnel have been mandated to re-invigorate our round the clock patrols with new vehicles provided for us by the Customs management.”

He has equally began to sensitize the various border communities in Seme Command area on the ills of smuggling and the need to prevent a situation whereby their communities would be used as either transit base or storage base for smugglers.
