Stakeholders at Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area of Lagos have called on the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in state to return the council boss, Abiodun Mafe, for a second term.

They said Mafe’s achievements as the council chairman have brought unprecedented democratic dividends to the area.

Among the laudable projects mentioned by the leaders of various groups in the area include reformation of the health care services by renovation of primary health centres, building new mini-general hospital, construction of new block of six classrooms at different primary schools, rehabilitation of roads, building of arcs at various estates, construction of drainages and culverts, assisting the aged and physically challenged people, provision of patrol vans, rehabilitation of a police post and donation of walkie-talkie sets to the police and empowerment for the people, among others.

Speaking with Lagos Bulletin, Alhaji Akanbi Babatunde, a market leader in the area, described Mafe’s administration as marvellous, saying that both the young and old benefited from it, especially in the area of empowerment of the youth, education and health, while market men and women now operate under a conducive environment to carry out their daily activities.

Akanbi hailed the council boss for meeting the needs of the teeming masses by building a new market at Gowon Estate.

“The market formerly known as Gowon market is now called Rauf Aregbesola Model Market. The chairman also rehabilitated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Model Market. We are fully behind Mafe, he has listening ears and it was through him that traders at Abesan Retail Market got good bore hole water which now serves the market.

“Before now, traders find it hard to get help from the council and had to go as far as Ikotun to see the chairman before Mosan-Okunola LCDA was created by Senator Bola Tinubu. Mafe has also done a lot in areas of road construction because roads in Abesan Estate and its environs have witnessed full rehabilitation,” he said.

Traditional head of Okunola, Chief Tajudeen Fashiro, also added his voice, saying “before Mafe came into power, our health care facility was bad and we did not have good road network, while our people did not have access to dividends of democracy. Although governance is not a day’s job, since he became the chairman and provision of means of transport for all the traditional rulers in Mosan-Okunola.”

Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC) in the council, Mr. Adewale Ogunronbi, said the past three years of Mafe’s administration has been successful.

According to him, “the chairman served the community very well. On health, he renovated all the primary health centres in the council and equipped them with modern medical facilities. He built six blocks of classrooms in all the primary schools and provided them with good toilets. He also supplied the schools with desks and benches, while he constructed at least, two roads in each of the wards in the council area. On welfare, he has been fair in terms of meeting the needs of the residents and those of members of staff. Our youths have been empowered with computer training, distribution of GCE and JAMB forms to students, while he also empowered young men and women to go into fish farming, among other things.
