Lagos Holds Clinic For Coaches, Referees

In a bid to keep its coaches and administrators abreast of the latest trend in basketball, the Lagos State Basketball Association, LSBA, with the support of the Public Affairs Section of the United States of America, USA, Consulate in Nigeria, is organising a three-day coaching clinic.

The annual event is in its fourth edition and has been scheduled to hold between 28-30 September at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Mobolaji Johnson Complex, Rowe Park,Yaba, Lagos.

Secretary of the LSBA, Mr. Uthman Ola Okunnu, said that the event would attract at least 150 participants from the South West zone of Nigeria, adding that the theme of this year’s edition is “Game of Basketball-Way Forward”.

Okunnu revealed that Professor Patrick Omo-Osagie, former international player, who is based in Canada, would facilitate the programme. He noted that coaches,technical officials, sports officers, referees, games masters and mistresses stand a chance of acquiring modern day techniques and tactics of the sport.

Okunnu said the clinic would go a long way to spread the gospel of the game among schools and top players, adding that it will ensure cordial relationship among the coaches and administrators in the state.

“This is an opportunity to develop the skills in our young and upcoming players as the participants would undergo practical sessions and theoretical trainings,” he said.

It was gathered that participants will be presented with balls, coaching boards,whistles,T-shirts and reversible training jerseys, among others.
