Our Anti-Corruption Efforts Have Been Fruitful — PHCN Boss

Mr. Rotimi Onanuga, the Chief Executive Officer of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, has said that PHCN’s efforts to rid the system of corruption had been fruitful.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt, Onanuga said that some members of staff in Port Harcourt zonal operations who were identified as corrupt after due investigation had been sacked.

He did not give the number of those sacked but added that some officers were currently being investigated for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

He hailed the efforts of the company’s Anti-Corruption Monitoring Unit (ACTU) in the zone, describing it as “very effective.”

“We do not treat corruption-related cases with levity. Apart from the ACTU, the zone has established a high-powered investigation unit and the two organs work together to fast-track investigations,” he said.

On power supply in the state capital, Onanuga advised residents to be patient as work was ongoing at PHCN installations at the Afam/ Port Harcourt transmission lines to improve supply to the area.

NAN reports that some parts of Port Harcourt and its environs had been without electricity for more than one month due to what the company said was repair work on its facility in the area.

The PHCN boss gave the assurance that power supply would become regular when the repairs were completed.
