Notable former football stars and coaches have concluded arrangements to offer opportunity to 35 talented youths that are ready to combine football with studying in American universities through a pet project tagged Football Scholars Project.

According to a statement by one of the co-ordinators of the programme, Nigerian ex-international, Taju Disu, the major aim of the programme is to afford the students in high schools and colleges within the age bracket of 16-20 an opportunity to pursue their football careers while studying abroad.

“This is a way of providing a platform for the numerous budding talents across the country to travel abroad and distinguish themselves not only in football but also in their various academic pursuits,”he said.

Disu disclosed that because the project has been fashioned to cater for players across the country, they have decided to have four zones for the project. Each zone will provide 25 players for the final camping that will take place in Lagos.

The zones are Akure/Ado-Ekiti, Benin City/Warri, Oshogbo/Ibadan and Lagos/Abeokuta zone.

The Football Scholars Project is organised in conjunction with telecommunication giant, MTN and football coaches from the United States of America.

Joe Erico, Charles Tetteh and Taju Disu are some of the coaches co-ordinating the project with each zone presenting three local coaches for camping.
