'Let's Partner With Government'

Nigerians have been advised to partner with the government to fast track our long-desired development.

Comrade Godswill A. Okorie, President of Igbere Welfare Union, Lagos State chapter, an association of the age grade system of 13 autonomous communities in Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, gave the advice during the presentation of prizes to winners of the union’s raffle draw organised to raise funds for its secretariat The event was held recently in Lagos.

Okorie said: “We should not be expecting government to do everything for or think about what we can gain from the government.

“The job of nation-building should not be seen as government affair alone. Individuals, associations and corporate organisation should get involved and that was why this union was formed in 1937 while the Lagos chapter was inaugurated in 1959, to contribute to members socio-economic development as well as to the development opf our state and nigeria at large.”

The union president appealed to members of the union and the general public to donate generously for the construction of the union’s secretariat.

The union is sourcing for N100million for its secretariat. The secretariat, the union said would also be use for any other purposes.
