A 22-year old man, Kazeem Tijani has been arrested by the police for allegedly having in his possession a locally made pistol. He was arrested at Apapa Junction Ire-Akari Estate, Isolo Lagos by Sergeant Ode Eboja .
The suspect was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol.II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count two reads: “That you, Kazeem Tijani and others now at large on the same date and time in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully had in your possession one locally made single barrel pistol without licence issued to you by the Inspector-General of Police and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4 and punishable under Section 428 (c) (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate A. T. Omoyele granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and adjourned the case till 21 September, 2011.
