Ajose Targets Boxing Glory

The ace pugilist, speaking with journalists on Monday vowed to outpunch his Algerian opponent despite the numerous postponements of the cracker when the two boxers stand toe to toe next week.

“Nobody wants postponement but you have to deal with it when it comes. I don’t think it is going to have negative effect on me because I have always been a mentally tough person. It is even going to urge me to perform better. I have been waiting for this fight for two years and I am not going to let it slip away,” said Ajose.

Speaking on the secret behind his unbeaten record of 29 professional fights, the former commonwealth champion revealed that his coaches have been very helpful to him in his career.

“I have been very fortunate to have been with very good coaches, especially Coach Joe Mensah. He is the best coach that we have in Africa and one of the best in the world. That is the reason I enlisted his service and he has been like a coach, manager and father to me,” said the hitman.

Ajose’s coach, Joe Mensah said that he is confident that the Nigerian boxer will beat his Algerian opponent.

“Ajose is a very determined person and I have the confidence that he will win the bout. We have carried out vigorous training sessions. In addition, he is also strong and courageous. So I believe he is going to carry the day,” said Mensah.

Commenting on the coming bout, the president of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, NBB of C, Godwin Kanu, told P.M. Sports that he expects nothing but victory when Ajose faces Ali Chebah on 30 September in America.

“I have no doubt that Ajose will triumph over Ali Chebah in that bout. It is certain that Ajose is destined for greater heights in world boxing and I don’t see the Algerian boxer disrupting his progress. So I am convinced that he is going to beat Ali Chebah as he had beaten others before him,” said the NBB of C topshot.

Kanu also disclosed that the board is already expecting the Nigerian boxer to deliver the world title to the country knowing full well that he has the physical and mental strength to overcome his opponent.

“In Ajose the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control is expecting a world title. We all know this will materialise as soon as he scales the Chebah hurdle. So we are seriouly praying for him to beat Chebah as he has always done,” said Kanu.

In his own contribution, the secretary of the board, Remi Aboderin said Ajose is a kind of boxer Nigerians can rely on due to his previous exploits in the sport.

“Ajose is a professional boxer that you can bet your money on and go to sleep. This is a boxer that big names in the light welterweight category like Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan will not step into the ring with because they are afraid of him.

“Ajose is a step towards realising his world title ambition and Chebah cannot stop from doing that . I sincerely have no doubt in my mind that he will do himself and the country proud when he faces Chebah next week,” said the NBB of C scribe.

Olusegun Ajose is set to leave the country for America this week in order to have ample time to acclimatise to the weather in California knowing full well that he has the physical and mental strength to overcome his opponent.
