The police in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a middle aged man for allegedly beheading a 25-year-old commercial bus driver.
The suspect, with others at large, was alleged to have abducted the driver and his wife, Opeyemi, from their house at night in Agbotutu area of Agbara Igbesa, Ogun State and taken them to a bush were the driver was beheaded.
Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the wife of the deceased said when the assailants wanted to behead her, she pleaded with them to spare her life as she was pregnant. She later reported the matter to the police and after a long search, the suspect was arrested while his accomplices are still on the run.
A source said that after the incident, the suspect and others wrote a petition to the Federal SARS at Adeniji Adele, alleging that members of deceased’s family are robbers.
The source said that based on the petition, the police arrested some members of the family and after investigation it was discovered that it was a land matter and not that of robbery.
The widow, Opeyemi, has therefore, appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to ensure that the killers of her husband are brought to book.
The suspect has been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation as the Inspector General of Police has shown interest in the matter.
