No Plan To Impose Candidates —NURTW

A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has debunked rumours that members of the union, particularly the immediate past chairman, Alhaji Akanni Olohunwa, the National President and the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, met in Mecca during this year’s lesser hajj and decided to hand-pick the state executive in the forthcoming state council election as false, baseless and a calculated attempt to cause chaos.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the union boss urged all bonafide members of the union to disregard the rumour as those behind it have an ulterior and selfish motive.

“The rumour is a calculated attempt to cause trouble in the state by those who are bent on destroying the union at all costs,” he added.

On the issuance of forms to intending candidates for the forthcoming state election, the union boss appealed to the national president to prevail on the Lagos State secretary of the union to stop giving ou forms to non-financial members and those that have long been expelled from the union in the interest of peace and justice.

He also advised security agents to put those trying to instigate members of the union on their watch list to avoid an unpleasant situation in the union.
