Beninoise Jailed 12 Months For Stealing Laptop

The Igbosere magistrate court, Lagos southwest Nigeria have sentenced a Republic of Benin national Francis Vianous 18, to one year imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a laptop valued N50,000.

The accused was convicted by magistrate Mrs. Badejo Okusanya when he pleaded guilty to a one count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police at Onikan police division, Ikoyi.

The police alleged in the charge sheet that the accused on 1 January, 2011 at about 05.30hours at No. 21, Ajeniya Street, Obalende Lagos stole an LG laptop computer valued N50,000 property of Olajide Bello and escaped.

But he was caught in September, 2011 when he came back to the place tos teal another one and handed over to the police.

The offence according to the prosecutor, Inspector Daniel Ighodalo is punishable under section 390 (9) of the criminal code cap C 17 Vol.2 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him and the presiding magistrate Mrs. Badejo Okusansa sentenced him to one year imprisonment with out an option of fine.
