Lagos University Gets New Vice Chancellor

The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the Lagos State University, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has approved the appointment of Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Ojo. His appointment takes effect from 1st November, 2011.
 
Professor Obafunwa was, until his appointment, a Professor of Forensic Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine of the Lagos State University College of Medicine and a Chief Medical Examiner.
 
He was the Provost of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) for two terms as well as a member of the Governing Council and the University’s Senate.
 
Professor Obafunwa attended College of Medicine, University of Lagos where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1980. He proceeded to National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and bagged a Fellow of the Medical College of Pathologists in 1987.
 
Professor Obafunwa is a member of the Royal College of Pathologists having attended University Medical School in Edinburg, Scotland.
 
Apart from being a Professor of Forensic Pathology, Professor Obafunwa also has both a certificate and bachelor’s degree in Law which he obtained from the  University of Canterbury and University of Northumbria respectively.
 
He is a Fellow of Faculty of Pathologists, Royal College of Physicians; Royal College of Pathologists; American College of Legal Medicine and Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine, Royal College of Physicians; and West African College of Physicians.
 
Professor Obafunwa was for two years the Consultant Pathologist and lecturer I in the Department of Pathology and Haematology at the University of Jos, 
Plateau State.
 
He succeeds Professor Lateef Akanni Hussein who resigned in June this year.
