House To Inaugurate Committees Next Thursday

The 84 Standing Committees of the House of Representatives will be inaugurated next Thursday, 29 September, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced during the plenary of the lower chamber this morning.

He also announced that as a means of cutting cost, the committees will be inaugurated in the chamber of the House and on the same day.

The House had last week announced the constitution of 84 standing committees.

Tambuwal also announced the formation of six new committees on Federal Road Safety Commission, Lake Chad, Information and Communication Technology, Reform of government institutions, Federal Road Maintenance Agency and Local Content.

“Legislative or parliamentary committees have evolved as vibrant and central institutions of modern democracies all over the world and Nigeria is no exception,’’ he said.

The House also condemned the recent rape of a lady in Abia State as depicted in a video currently circulating on the internet. The plenary was on as at the time of filing this report.
