‘NYCN Executive Council Not Suspended’

The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has refuted a publication that its executive body has been suspended.

A communique signed by the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NYCN, Mustapha Abiodun Onafuye after a meeting of the council in Benin, Edo State, declared that “the executive council is still intact and in control.”

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) wishes to state that the former President of the council, Mr. Olawale Ajani James was suspended from office last month based on financial misappropriation and gross violation of the council’s constitution and the deputy president, Comrade Esse Gerald Umoh has since been empowered to act as President of the council. The executive remains intact,” Onafuye stated.

He reminded the Minister for Youth Development, Hon. Bolaji Abdullahi that at no time was the leadership of the council suspended.

He advised the minister to go through the handing over note given to him by his predecessor as regards the situation in NYCN.

On the suspended president, Olawale Ajani James, the Council spokesman maintained that he remained suspended and any comment on the NYCN from him should be ignored.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the NYCN has not been suspended as reported, he added.
