Residents of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, LCDA, of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have condemned the imposition of the council chairman, Hon. Taofeek Adaranijo on the council for the third term by the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

In a mass protest led by the coordinator, Constitutional Rights Project, Agege, Ikeja, and Alimisho Chapters, Comrade Adewale Adesanya, on Thursday to the party’s secretariat Orile-Agege and some parts of the council area, the group vowed to stop the ACN by all constitutional means from imposing Hon. Adaranijo on the people of the area for the third term.

Comrade Adesanya said that not only was the third term agenda of the ACN for some council chairmen in Lagos State a negation of the constitution, it had also made a mockery of the sanctity of the rule of law which the party and its leadership had stood for over the years.

“If the leaders of the party and other well meaning Nigerians could fight former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his third term agenda, why now preach this infamous agenda in Lagos State to make a fool of Lagosians?” he asked.

Comrade Adesanya pointed out that “we will go to court to challenge such an abuse as citizens and residents of this state and council area.”

The activist noted that if Hon. Adaranijo, who for eight years had no meaningful impact on the lives of the people of the council, was so good to the leadership of the party, he should be given a state appointment and not to be imposed on the people for a third term.

The protesters expressed their disappointment at the leadership of the party who gave a nod to some of the council chairmen to contest for the third term.
