Rivers Transport Agency Lawyer Abducted
The Legal Officer of the Rivers State Road Transport Management Authority, TIMARIV, Miss Cleverly Brown, was last night, at about 9 p.m. kidnapped by unidentified gunmen as she was entering her house along Ada George road, Port Harcourt.
The whereabouts of the legal officer remain unknown as the abductors have not made any contact with the family and neither have they made any demand.
When P.M.NEWS contacted Ben Ugwuagbulem, spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, he confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we got the information about her abduction, but we are yet to get full details about the incident. Our detectives have commenced full investigation into the incident,†he said.
TIMARIV as an agency has a terrible image problem among motorists and commuters in the Rivers State capital for its highhandedness on alleged traffic offenders.
Residents of the city have at various fora complained to Governor Chibuike Amaechi on the modus operandi of the agency. Rather than calling them to order, the Governor blamed the motorists of always disobeying traffic rules and regulations.
Victims of the highhandedness have complained of extortion, damage of their vehicles at the point of towing to the TIMARIV premises and the indignity they are subjected to.
A victim, Paul Ogbonna, had his SUV parked in front of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt, towed despite his plea and explanation.
It is not known if those who kidnapped the legal officer are on a vengeful mission or they are out to take a slice off the fat purse of the agency in form of ransom.
