Senior Workers Hail New LASU VC
The Lagos State University (LASU) Chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Monday expressed optimism that the institution’s newly appointed vice –chancellor would introduce needed reforms.
Governor Babatunde Fashola appointed Professor John Obafuwa as LASU’s Vice Chancellor on September 22.
Obafunwa, a professor of forensic pathology, was a past Provost of the university’s College of Medicine (LASUCOM).
His appointment takes effect from October. He beat the Acting Vice- Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.
Obafunwa succeeds Professor Lateef Akanni Hussain as LASU’s vice chancellor.
Mrs. Funmi Sessi, Chairman of LASU chapter of SSANU, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that required reforms would reposition LASU for excellence.
“We are happy with the government for appointing a person with a sound pedigree, a man of honour, integrity and hard work.
“LASUCOM was a force to reckon with in the country under his leadership; we are hoping that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear to bring back LASU to reckoning.
“He is not coming to turn around just the infrastructure of the university but also academic activities as well as workers’ welfare,†Sessi said.
Sessi noted that LASU needed leaders who would carry workers and students along in their decisions to enable the institution to rank among the best in the country.
