Babatunde Saheed Dokunmu, a chairmanship aspirant for Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State in the coming local government election in the state, has said the reason why he joined the race was to ensure that the dividends of democracy is delivered to his people.

The former coordinator of student activities during the 12 June, 1993 presidential election, flagged off his campaign in October 2010 with a poverty alleviation programme held at Ewu Tuntun in Oshodi, in which 40 people across the seven wards in the local council benefited.

Items distributed were 20 sewing machines and 20 complete GSM business centre including recharge cards, umbrellas, mobile phones, chairs, etc.

During the second phase of the programme, N10,000 each was given to 20 widows and widowers, clippers to 15 barbers, 10 hair dryers to hair dressers and helmets to okada riders, among other things.

On what spurred his interest in the chairmanship post, he said he wants to surpass the record of the incumbent chairman, by delivering dividends of democracy which, he said, had eluded the people over the years, while promising to carry stakeholders along in his administration if given opportunity to serve.
