The police in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have foiled an attempt by armed robbers to rob at Ibafon Estate, following a tip-off by members of the public.
P.M.NEWS learnt that members of the public alerted policemen attached to Mopol 20 who were on guard duty at Ibafon Estate that some armed robbers were at 13, Creek Crescent Beachland Estate, Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos. The policemen were said to have moved quietly to the area and condoned off the place were the robbers were engaged them in a gun battle.
At the end, two of the robbers were arrested while others escaped.
The suspects have made useful statements to the police who have begun a manhunt for fleeing members of the gang.
When a search was conducted on the suspects a toy pistol was found on them.
Similarly, anti-robbery Policemen attached to Area â€˜Bâ€™ Command, Apapa, Lagos, while on stop and search duty under the bridge at Ijora 7-up, arrested two suspected armed robbers in a Honda Odyssey space wagon while others escaped.
P.M.NEWS gathered that when a search was conducted on the vehicle a locally made pistol was found.
The suspects were taken to Area â€˜Bâ€™ Command, Apapa, were they made useful statements to the police.
While confirming the story, the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu(DSP), advised the public to always assist the police with information as part of their contribution to community policing.
