Adefulire, Oshodi For Balogun Cup Opening Ceremony

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Adejoke Orelope Adefulire and Commissioner for Sports, Enitan Oshodi are some of the invited guests expected at the opening ceremony of Balogun Cup tomorrow at the Campos Sports Centre, Lagos Island, Lagos.

The opening match will be played between Olubodun FC and Roma FC. Other matches of the first day are Asaf FC vs. Royal Strikers and Nice Base’s fight against De Royal FC.

The tourney is sponsored by Honourable Yakub Balogun, who is representing Lagos Island Constituency II in the Federal House or Representatives.

The chairman of the Organising Committee, Afolabi Onanaike, told GSG that they are ready to stage a colourful opening ceremony, saying that they have invited some musicians who will entertain the crowd before and after the match.

Onanaike popularly known as AFO said the Deputy Governor of Lagos and others invited guests have promised to grace the opening ceremony. He said all the 72 participating teams are fully ready for the competition.

“A lot of people on Lagos Island are looking forward to the opening match. Balogun Cup is the talk of the town among the youth on the Island.Some of the teams have promised to come with their large supporters. It is going to be a funfair and a memorable event that one should not miss,” he said.

Commenting on the security, Onanaike said they have contacted the policemen from the lion Building and promised to come. He also warned the trouble makers to shun violence saying that anybody caught will be arrested.

“We are aware the challenges ahead and that is why we want to beef up security around the match venue. We don’t want our guests to be molested and there will be a maximum security guarantee,” He said.

Match Coordinator, Savage Olubodun expressed gratitude to the cup donor for his contribution to the sports development on Lagos Island and promised that all the teams will be treated equally.
