Lions Club Seeks N100m For Projects

The Ikeja Metro Lions Club, an affiliate of the International Association of Lions Club, District 404B Nigeria, is planning to raise about N100 million to fiance its humanitarian projects across Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

Lion Bimpe Babajide dropped this hint during her investiture on Saturday as the president of Ikeja Metro Lions Club for the 2011/ 2012 service year.

Speaking during the occasion held at Paragon Hotel in Ikeja, Lion Babajide said that members of the club have identified projects to be executed before July 2012, when she is expected to hand over the mantle of leadership of the club to a successor.

According to her, some of the projects are donation of books to public schools, giving of relief materials and financial assistance to victims of the recent floods that ravaged parts of the state and distribution of helmets to commercial motorcycle operators.

Other projects she said are lectures to be co-hosted by the Federal Road Safety Commssions and the club, visit to patients at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja and the planting of trees across the state, which is expected to cost about N3million. She disclosed that all the projects are estimated to cost N100million

Lion Babajide appealed to members of the club, non- members who attended the investiture ceremony, corporate bodies as well as public spirited indivuals, who wish to assist the poor in our midst to do so, “since this is the best way to carry out humanitarian works the Lions way.”

In his speech at the occasion, Lion Dr Ayoade Adesokun, District Governor, 404B Nigeria, called on members of the club to identify with the passion for service to humanity as exhibited by the incumbent president, saying that Lions Club is one of the humanitarin clubs recognised by the United Nations as a worldwide humanitarian service club.

Twenty officials were inaugurated during the ceremony. Some of them are Lion Blessing Umebali, secretary, Lion Andrew Amadiamen, charter president/membership director, Lion Juliet n Kojo Onwaeze, treasurer, and Lion Helen Iruegbe, member smong others.

Lion Johnson Uche, Lion Grace Nwali and Lion Gabriel Oderheohwo were inducted as members of the club, even as four persons, Alhaji Ibrahim Saliu, Chief Fatia Sobowale, Prince Lekan Famuyide and Ayo Onabanjo, became honorary members.
