‘My Achievements Speak For Me’
The hallmark of a successful government is the ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people and this Hon. Abiodun Rasheed Mafe, ARM, has done to the people of his constituency in his first term as the Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
In three years at the helms of affair at Mosan-Okunola LCDA, he successfully built an ultramodern medical centre christened Rauf Aregbesola Medical Centre, purchased 45 utility vehicles for the LCDA, repaired and donated patrol vans to Ipaja Police Post, distributed transformers to various communities in the LCDA, constructed a block of six classrooms each at African Church Primary School, Akinogun and Abesan Estate Primary School, LSDPC Estate, Abesan Ipaja and fully equipped them.
He also rehabilitated Abesan Opela, Church Street, Shagari Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Mosan, Ayoola, Abesan Estate, Okunola and Jakande LSDPC, Estate roads as well as the construction of culverts and drainages among others.
Speaking with Political Platform during a tour of the LCDA, Hon. Mafe said his achievements are enough to speak for him, adding that he will use his second term in office to consolidate on his first term achievements.
“When we came into office, there was no vehicle on ground. We, therefore, had a synergy with Skye Bank, Oceanic Bank and First Bank which gave us a leverage and all the vehicles that we purchased have duly been paid for.
“We have done marvellously well since the beginning of this administration. About 1,000 indigent students benefited annually from our free GCE/JAMB forms. We also organised free coaching classes to enable them excel in the exams. Equally, we have done well in the area of development; with the distribution of transformers to various communities within the LCDA.
“We enjoyed the support of the good people of Mosan-Okunola LCDA. The land on which we built our medical centre was purchased by this administration and I sought the permission of the state government to build it. It was built, commissioned and fully equipped. The centre is opened for 24 hours. To God’s glory, we have delivered 20 babies since June 2011 to date and that shows that we are on course,” he said.
Speaking further, the local government administrator said that during this period over 6,000 residents have benefited from his government’s free three-day health programme.
According to him, “the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, has awarded the Ayobo-Ipaja Road and the contractor handling the project, Plycon Nigeria Limited, will resume work on it as soon as it finishes work on the Mosalasi-Igando Road.
“The Gate bus stop and Ayobo-Ipaja Road is a state road and it has been awarded by the state government. We have also taken palliative measures on the roads. We collaborated with the state work department to surface the road from Gate to Akinyele bus stop and did same at Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Abesan.
“This LCDA is very small and our Internally-Generated Revenue, IGR, amounts to about N2 million per month. Don’t forget that this area is a semi-urban area. I have appealed to our people to kindly bear with us. As soon as the rain stops, work will commence on these roads and it is going to be dualised,†he said.
Honourable Mafe said he will use his second term in office to consolidate on his achievements, adding that his administration will focus more on health, education, infrastructure, security and marketing operatives for the sake of continuity.
