Committee Submits Report On LG Reforms
The Technical Experts Committee on Local Government Reforms has submitted its report to the Lagos State Government.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ademorin Kuye received the report from the seven-member committee last week in Lagos, South West Nigeria.
The committee, which held several sessions, addressed challenges, such as development of sound and accountable financial management system, limited financial autonomy, lack of creative revenue generation strategy, among others.
Receiving the report, Kuye commended the committee for the industrious spirit exhibited throughout the deliberations despite their tight schedule.
He said the ministry had resolved to establish Liaison Offices and a formidable audit team to ensure that policies at the state level and all budget approvals were implemented to the letter.
Chairman of the committee, Mr. Akin Bashiru commended the government’s bid to reposition the LG system in the state.
The chairman stated that the recommendations in the report reflected the committee’s views of good transformational platform for the enthronement of good governance at the grassroots if and when backed by the requisite political will of the administration.
He assured that members of the committee would be willing and ready to answer further calls to serve in similar regard when the need arose.
