Perm Sec Tasks Muslim Women
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaja Risikat Akinyode, has advised Muslim women to embrace Western education and also ensure that they are gainfully employed in order to be able to assist their husbands.
She gave the advice at an enlightenment programme organised by Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (Sisters’Circle), at the weekend.
The permanent secretary, who was represented by Mrs, Mutiat Akinsola Shote, said Muslim women should associate with others in order not to be isolated and should also be economically independent to achieve their aims.
She observed that Muslim women don’t have confidence in themselves and the only way they could achieve success is by working hand-in-hand.
She said they should engage themselves in one business or the other and also make sure they are educated.
“Women should be courageous and determined in everything they do in order to make a good career because a woman with high intelligence stands to be respected,” she stated, adding that some women don’t want to work because they think their husbands should take care of all the responsibilities at home and that assumption may lead to child abuse in the family.
She advised Muslim women to dress well as the way they dress will determine how they are addressed because dressing reflects their professionalism and faith.
She spoke against violence against women in the society, while urging men to ensure its eradication.
