Employee Docked Over N1.8m Recharge Cards

An employee of Global Investment and Communication Company has landed in trouble after he reportedly stole recharge cards valued N1, 874, 194, 00.

The 30-year-old Stephen Ogaragbo allegedly stole recharge cards of Airtel, Etisalat, GLO, MTN, Multilinks, Starcomms and Visa phone.

He allegedly burgled his employer’s shop on 11 May, 2011 at 5, Charity Road, New Oko-Oba, Abule-Egba and stole recharge cards of all networks inside the shop.

The accused was later arrested by the police in Oko-Oba division and arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Abule-Egba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on one-count charge of theft, an offence which according to the prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle contravened section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. The presiding magistrate, Mr. O.A. Komolafe admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed.

He further ordered that the sureties must show evidence of payment tax to the Lagos State government.

Komolafe said one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the accused person and present a National Identity card to the prosecutor for verification.

The matter has been adjourned till October 10, 2011.
